Zoë F Pool PhD

I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer with nearly thirty years experience working with people to overcome a range of difficulties and distress.

I am also an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner.

Whilst Covid-19 uncertainty continues to pose a risk to health, I am continuing to provide psychotherapy sessions online. Before considering a return to "in person" sessions, I am waiting to see how successfully the vaccine and booster programme minimises the gravity of variants of coronavirus in the coming months.

I specialise in working with people who recognise their need to recover and heal from the wounds of trauma - big and small adverse experiences. These might be acute and sudden and/or chronic and enduring.

In addition to working in private practice, I was the Therapeutic Director, of Hurting To Healing (formerly Dorset Action on Abuse) for fourteen years between 2007-2021. Hurting to Healing was a specialist agency whose mission was to support the recovery of anyone over the age of 16 who needed support to recover from any form of childhood abuse and adverse childhood experiences. I managed, trained and supervised the Hurting to Healing team of counsellors. I am continuing my therapeutic work with clients presenting with complex, attachment-based trauma and dissociation. I also facilitate creative, expressive arts in therapy with individuals and groups.

I am dedicated to my work as a psychotherapist with people of all ages, and the requirements for continuing professional development merely underpins my own desire to learn more, to continually develop as a practitioner in the service of others and as a person.

 Ethical Principles

My therapeutic practice is underpinned by ethical principles. As a psychotherapist, my primary aim is to alleviate suffering and personal distress with compassion and integrity. I would hope that my compassion is rooted in a sensitivity to suffering and a motivation to do something active to help that suffering. A core value I hold is that domination, force and cruelty in all forms and degrees generate suffering, and are therefore unacceptable.

I respect the unique quality of all individuals. I value equality between differences.

Respecting client autonomy and maintaining confidentiality, the values I ascribe to include: beneficence: a commitment to promote the client’s well-being and non-maleficence: a commitment to avoid harm to the client.
Through fidelity, I respect the trust placed in me, seeking to be just and fair. I am also responsible for maintaining my well-being and consulting with other professionals as appropriate.

I am registered as a:
  • UKCP Psychotherapist (2000) Registered Modality: Existential Psychotherapy
  • UKCP Supervisor through the Universities Training College
  • EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner
  • General Hypnotherapy Register: Senior Practitioner
  • General Hypnotherapy Register: Acknowledged Supervisor

  • I am registered with the ICO to comply with GDPR regulations.
  • I am a Visiting Fellow at Bournemouth University.
