Online Therapies
Online therapy sessions can be a very effective way to fit therapy into one’s week. It does not involve travelling time to reach my therapeutic practice. Online therapy can take place as a scheduled video meeting, at our mutual convenience from any location where you can connect to the internet. It is important that you have a private, safe and comfortable place in which to settle yourself for your session and log in to agreed online site.
Please contact me to find out more about how online therapy can work for you.
Online Therapy in the comfort of your own home
Some people with chronic illnesses or disabilities, people who suffer from depression, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD, or anxiety disorders may find it difficult to get out of bed on some days, let alone getting in the car and driving to an appointment across town. This is one of the most common reasons why people who need therapy end up not getting the help they need.
Being able to have therapy in the comfort of your own home is a big benefit and online therapy may be some people’s only option for accessing psychotherapy support. Others who live in rural areas or do not have adequate transport links may have no way to get to and from therapy in a manageable time frame.
Another reason many people opt for online therapy is because they feel very comfortable with online communication, especially younger adults or those who use technology often. More people are using email, video calling and even text messaging to communicate, and it can sometimes seem more comfortable or easier than talking to someone in person, especially when revealing personal or private information.
Please contact me to discuss your needs.
SOME PRACTICAL INFORMATION FOR ONLINE THERAPY SESSIONS
Here is some practical information to help you understand what to expect with online therapy sessions and also provide some tips to make sure the process runs smoothly. When working online I favour either:ZOOMwww.zoom.us Or SKYPE at www.skype.com
Both are free for you to access and download.
To begin with, for some clients, it might feel strange to have therapy sessions online rather than in person. In my experience of working with clients, online work can often be just as helpful as in person sessions, especially when it is necessary. My aim is to create a safe and contained space for us to work together. However, I am unable to personally guarantee the complete 100% security of any online platform/app.
Please let me know which of the above you would prefer to use or your chosen platform.
- Zoom: A video on how to use Zoom is here :

If we are using zoom I will send you an email before the session which contains a meeting number. Please make sure I have your correct email before the session.
- Skype: Skype is also easy to use: skype.com
My skype address is: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Please ensure you connect with my skype address before the session so we can start on time.
To ensure our session runs as smoothly as possible, please:
- Have your computer or mobile set up with our agreed application (e.g. Zoom or Skype etc.) before the session commences. This includes having your microphone and video turned on.
- It is a good idea to wear headphones as these provide a better quality of sound and better level of privacy for the session.
- Position your computer or device at a height so I can clearly see your face and that the camera is at eye level.
- Make sure that you are sitting comfortably in a quiet, appropriate location, as it is very easy to hear background noises e.g. animals and washing machines and kettles etc.
- Make sure that you will not be disturbed by others for the duration of the session and that the door to the room you are sitting in is closed.
- If you are using your computer, you have your mobile or landline phone available incase the internet fails. Put it just out of reach and with the sound muted
- Make sure there is adequate lighting in the room you are in, and try not to sit with your back to a window or light – this can make it very hard for me to see you.
- Have a box of tissues and a glass of water nearby.
- Please do not consume any alcohol or drugs that might still be in your body before any session.
- Please do NOT record the sessions.
- Be ready to join our session at the agreed time.
As with ‘in person’ sessions, my confidentiality agreement and my terms and conditions that I ask you to sign at the beginning of of our work still apply. Please note: I always require 48 hours notice if you wish to cancel or postpone an agreed session, otherwise the full fee is payable.
